COMPANY
ITECO’s hazardous
gas detector
division dates back
to 1982 when its
founder, electronic
engineer Jay Monroe,
purchased a thriving
gas detector
manufacturing
company in
California and moved
it cross country to
New York. Engaging
in this new line of
business was a
natural and logical
step for this
seasoned
entrepreneur with a
passion for the
field of
electronics.
After working in the
Naval Ordinance
Laboratory during
World War II, Jay
started the Tensor
Corporation where he
developed sound
systems for U.S.
submarines. An
innovator at heart,
in 1959, Jay
invented the famed
Tensor Lamp. In the
mid-1960s, he was
recognized for his
abiding interest in
environmental issues
when Mayor John V.
Lindsay appointed
him to New York
City’s Business
Advisory Counsel on
Air Pollution.
Carrying out his
mission there, in
1967, Jay’s company
produced a
successful indoor
air purifier.
The hazardous gas
detector business he
brought to ITECO
represents a fusion
of two of Jay’s
great interests:
electronic
engineering and
creating
pollutant-free
environments. His
ingenuity and drive
create a lasting
legacy and the
foundation for our
commitment to
continually update
and improve our
product line for
your workplace
safety and peace of
mind.
